Katie- "Something I've been thinking a lot about lately in the context of how we treat women on the internet women who express values of any kind are held to a different standard entirely than those who appear to stand for nothing."
Okay I’ve listened to enough Who? Weekly that I can answer your question about why Brianna Chickenfry is not defending Alex Cooper. In short, she and her Barstool podcast cohost Grace also had a falling out (also very publicized by Portnoy) and she was unhappy that Alex Cooper “took advantage” of their conflict by signing Grace immediately after
If anyone wants long form supplementary reading, Dekonstructing the Kardashians is such a fascinating dissection of how Kim and the family as a whole have managed to ascend and maintain power despite of/leveraging all their controversies that probably would’ve killed the careers of less media savvy figures.
I've been curious about Alex Cooper and wow cannot believe how much I didn't know. I loved this so much!!
One tiny wrinkle in this story that may be interesting (and maybe people already know this but I have to say it): Brianna LaPaglia is Zach Bryan's ex girlfriend and she went on her podcast to do a tell-all about how much of an astounding douchebag he is. She refused a substantial sum of money from Zach to stay silent! It's a fascinating microcosm of perception and gender differences particularly within the music industry. Everyone's arguing about whether Taylor Swift was a mean girl to Olivia Rodrigo and if Olivia intentionally dresses like a little girl and Zach has left a trail of abused women in his wake and truly no one seems to care.
I’ve been stuck in my house for the last 6 days with my two young children who both have HFM. I thought all the joy had gone out of my life but I was wrong. Thank God for this episode.
Thank you for pointing out that most successful influencers start out rich and it’s a real head-scratcher that normie poors consider them to be relatable. It was the same thing with all the late-aughts fashion bloggers (looking at you, Pink Peonies) who were 17 posting ootd’s with different clothes every day from their dad’s Utah McMansion and that’s who we chose to make famous. It has to be linked to how most Americans just consider themselves to be temporarily embarrassed millionaires and that’s why they keep voting for tax cuts for the wealthy while scraping by on $40k a year.
I felt like I got a crash course on our current pop culture , also at the same time felt increasingly living in a dystopian nightmare with every passing minute. Either way great post Liars !
Admittedly I don’t know anything about the alexes and their relationship outside of this astute episode, but is there any chance these women are actually working together to push forward their feud? They both seem to appeal to different audiences and the way the passive aggressive stoking the fire with the portonoy asshat in the middle seems brilliant for their respective brands.
ah yes the false flag / bush did call her daddy theory. i think that was the hunch at first, but as things have unfolded, it's looking less likely to be coordinated
Totally. AND they still have they same publicist and agent? I felt like the clip of Cooper honestly sounded a little rehearsed. Everyone loves a feud and they have a long game in mind. I can already imagine how many likes they’ll get when they post a photo together after they make up. I’m sure there will be an Ale/ix-branded product to sling eventually.
Please please please no more pop culture episodes. I beg. I can’t take any more. I cannot find it in me to care about this in any way, even acknowledging that they probably covered this in the best and deepest way they possibly could.
Respectfully, this is an episode about media, women, and business. Also, pop culture is culture, it shapes and reflects society, whether or not you care.
Logically, I know that (poster) Alex is right, but my heart is with Colleen. This is definitely too much white person shit for me (and I say that as a white person) 😬
I'm pleased to report Katie and Caro are the only internet celebs I have a parasocial relationship with 🫡 if DB ever breaks up, I am mourning as dramatically as I can
I lost it at “Bush did Call Her Daddy” and “Osama bin Laden’s letter about Call Her Daddy.”
call her daddy split a false flag operation, pass it on
Katie- "Something I've been thinking a lot about lately in the context of how we treat women on the internet women who express values of any kind are held to a different standard entirely than those who appear to stand for nothing."
Caro- "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Oh, how I laughed.
Portenoy is the real villain

ahhh! wow, serious plot hole in my research, thank you / portnoy at it again
Wholigans <3
I have absolutely no idea who these two ladies are, so I am kind of excited to find out, I love a retrospective on controversies.
i'm sorry for the brain cells you inevitably lost along the way
Listen! I didn’t lose any after the episode on Republican women’s mar a lago face and poor clothing choices I think I’ll be okay. 🤣🤣🤣
Kim, I think I agree. A recap and not being fully immersed in the drama is the way to go.

!!! this is such a good thread, i wish i would've pulled on this one

LOL i'm glad to inject your household of pain with some idiocy!!!
Omg that was me in January of this year! I know your pain! ✊🦶👅
I’m about halfway through. Had never heard Dave Portnoy’s voice before (charmed life I guess). Wracking my brain as to why it sounds so familiar.
Suddenly realized- he sounds like Matt Walsh to me, and that’s gonna make me really enjoy hating him more.
sometimes god smiles upon us
The opening. The jazz music😂😂😂😂

100%! Somehow we all think we're about to be rich
