Earlier this month, Katie made a major announcement about her brand, Money With Katie: in 2026, she will buy back her intellectual property rights and equity from Morning Brew, shutter the podcast for the indefinite future, take full ownership of the weekly MWK newsletter, and return to her roots as a writer, first and foremost.
A deep-dive into Katie's political deconstruction from a capitalist to a radical commie?? A hero's journey that doesn't end in a hangover and missed opportunities?? Diabolical Lies FTW!! And can't wait for Caro’s reboot of A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Woman.
Ok loved this episode and could definitely be saying something more intelligible but just popped on to note that I can't believe someone found Katie's voice annoying...? You're an eloquent queen who enunciates *so* well.
I know, can you imagine?? Not to be a shallow asshole— I don’t want to diminish my appreciation for how much I love the pod for like their ~work~ and ~minds~— but Katie’s sexy voice might have been the reason for my subscription?
Haven’t finished the ep yet but the discussion about receiving feedback on a scale you can’t process once becoming a public figure kinda reminded me of this Maybe Baby post about “the gossip you’re not supposed to hear”. It’s about motherhood/parenthood but a similar sort of topic https://open.substack.com/pub/haleynahman/p/216-gossip-youre-not-supposed-to
This was SO good. Maybe it's because I am nosy bitch but thank you Katie for being open and honest with us all about the decision to buy back MWK - loved it!
Katie you are a badass loved hearing your origin story a little bit, and how lucky are the rest of us that you guys found your intellectual yapping soulmate in each other.
Ok, listened to the episode and loved learning about Katie. I tried quickly finding the books that Katie read, one had Nordic in the title and I think there were 2? Does anyone know them. I can listen more and find them so not too big of a deal.
Adored every moment of this. Loved hearing Katie's story but also I just really resonated. A year ago I interviewed for a job in nature conservation and didn't get it, but that process of fighting for something gave me so much clarity of what I really wanted to do. So, with a lot of encouragement from my husband, I quit my corporate job to focus on that and I got hired in an identical conservation role 6 months later. I don't dream of labor but it does feel like dream to be so fulfilled by my day job because instead of helping companies tear up the ground to build a mall, I now help preserve that land.
So just wanted to say that I know what you mean about that feeling and it's incredible/actually inspiring to me that you're continuing to push yourself and take risks that make you feel that way.
Also, I'm not sure a podcast has ever made me laugh as hard as Caro describing her time with Leslie the australian shepherd.
Related to this so much. I’ve only had one company so far throw it out there to buy my company and have me work for them and it’s hard to say no. The peace I have with owning and being in control of my little piece of my industry is too precious to me and the PTSD from my old office environments makes me think I’ll never change my mind.
New subscriber catching up :,) loved this ep & something that stood out to me (a bio phd student) are the parallels between Katie’s time at morning brew & the process of earning a PhD (needing to carve out a niche for yourself in a competitive space, having someone fund your original work & needing to meet their demands and make them money while also taking things in the direction you want, having a ton of public feedback you don’t want (different from being internet famous but we are required to give many seminars on our work & a lot of the feedback is very personal), etc) - if you guys have done any research about the privatization/business-ification of academia i would be really interested to hear about it!
I consider the fake sponsors your theme song. it's great cause it changes every episode
Agreed--and I *actually* listen to it instead of skipping ahead 30 seconds to get to the good stuff (because it IS the good stuff)
I love the excitement Caro brings to celebrate Katie.
tell me about it — #blest

I’m constantly in need of Katie’s voice. She could be the audio book narrator for the Oxford English Dictionary and I would sit through it.

Is your company something that us Liars can support?!
No, but oh my gosh thanks for the good vibes!!
I own a planning and development management company in BC 🇨🇦 so it’s very much place and policy based
That sounds bad ass! Jealousy waving to you and your decently functioning country from below the border (I live in Seattle) 😅
Thanks! I’ve o it made it there once but it was a lovely first impression. We are decently functioning and nothing more lol
